Palapa Kit Options

This page covers some common alterations to the four post palapas; just to allow you a chance to consider the possibilities. Because of the many variations we request that you contact us for pricing.

Although our stock sizes are 12 ft. and 16 ft., outside diameter, they can be designed to any size, although, timber and other structural issues may arise if it gets too large.

Also the shape can be altered;
a few examples:
Typical 16 ft. with 10 ft. post (rafter lines)
Typical 16 ft. with 10 ft. post,
rafters are shortened to square two sides.
Side view of 16 ft. with shortened rafter and braces left in place
(the braces can be removed to maintain a level horizon)
Stretched to 10 ft. x 12 ft. overall 16 ft. x 18 ft. oval
As you can see our design can be manipulated in several directions. The cost for changing our template is reasonable; also changes in material costs may occur.

You have the option to purchase the frame without the palm leaves or change to other thatches or coverings.

With the umbrellas you can add the table top. The styles vary, please call for pricing.

Although the traditional installation of these palapas is with the posts set in the ground with concrete, they can be cut for surface installation. This will add “wind bracing” and precise height cuts on the four post palapas.

Where fire safety is a concern we offer a fire retardant application to the palm leafs. The leaf preparation and application (both sides) cost is $ 2.75 per sq. ft. of roof area. Example 16 x 16 octagon = 192 sq. ft.
Frequently Asked Questions
1.) Is installation available?
2.) How long can I expect my palapa to last?
3.) What maintenance should I expect?
4.) In the event of damage how difficult would it be to obtain replacement fronds?
5.) How difficult are these kits to install?

1.) Is installation available?

Yes, installation is available in central Texas; in some cases installers may venture farther if compensated for travel. We are currently working with dealers in others areas around the state to expand installation and availability of our products.

2.) How long can I expect my palapa to last?

Our frames are made from sturdy Ash Juniper, a wood that has been used for fence posts (a.k.a. ‘cedar posts’) for at least a century, and still being used today. Our frames are treated for water and UV before leaving the shop. If properly maintained, these frames should last 15 to 20 years, or even longer.

Life expectancy of palm fronds is variable depending on weather conditions. Hardy and resilient, they should last from three to five years, or even longer. Generally, fronds are replaced for appearance sake rather than failure.

3.) What maintenance should I expect?

As the support logs are continuously exposed to sunlight, they should be recoated each year. This recoating, for the most part, is to maintain the color of the post because the sun will bleach-out almost anything. The wood in areas that are not exposed to sunlight are also coated to prevent water stains. These pieces should be recoated if they are not repelling water.

4.) In the event of damage how difficult would it be to obtain replacement fronds?

Replacement fronds, as well as a variety of other thatch products, are readily available through Texas Palapas, as well as various additional outlets found on the internet. If you are not interested in replacing them personally, call Texas Palapas or the original installer.

5.) How difficult are these kits to install?

This depends on the individual. If you are reasonably competent with tools it shouldn’t be too difficult. Assembly is generally a two man job requiring one to two days, depending on the unit purchased. On the other hand, if your experience with construction-related projects is limited you might consider obtaining the services of a carpenter, deck builder or other professional.
